Alvin College Students Place in Pitch Competition Two Alvin Community College Business Management students recently won funding for their start-up ideas in a recent pitch competition hosted on campus.Sofia Incalcaterra and Bessica Hinton received first runner up and second runner up respectively during the event for their pitches. Three Alvin College Board of Regents members took the oath of office during a swearing-in ceremony on May 12. Regents Kam Marvel, Darren Shelton and Mike Pyburn took the oath for positions 4, 5, and 6 respectively. All will serve six year terms. Shelton and Pyburn were reelected to their positions. Marvel took over the position vacated by former regent and Vice Chair Jody Droege who decided not to seek reelection after 12 years on the board. Alvin College celebrated its annual Commencement Ceremony on May 8 at Freedom Field. There were 475 graduates who walked the stage during the ceremony including some of the first graduates from the Bachelor’s of Business Administration and Management Degree program. The ceremony also included Dual Degree graduates from high schools in Alvin, Pearland and Danbury ISDs. “Commencement is one of the most meaningful occasions of the academic year,” President Robert J. Exley said during the ceremony.
Alvin College Phi Theta Kappa Spring Induction The Mu Upsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Alvin College held its Spring induction ceremony on April 30. The chapter inducted 44 new members during the ceremony. Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society of two-year colleges.
