Sometimes the greatest discoveries can be from your own backyard. Alvin Community College History and Study Abroad instructor Chris Chance has helped students learn about places all over the world. ACC Grant to Revive Forgotten Music
Before broadcast radio was invented, the only way for a song to survive was to be performed. Over time, many songs faded into history. Alvin Community College History Chair Dr. Alexander Marriott and Music Chair Dr. Kevin Moody hope to revive some of the forgotten music now preserved in the Library of Congress. “Most are forgotten and have no contemporary recordings or any recordings,” Marriott said. ACC Regents Approve Nursing Grant
The Alvin Community College Board of Regents approved a $150,000 grant to the Nursing Program from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board during the regents’ meeting on June 26. The grant is from THECB’s Nursing Advancement and Health Professions program created to address growing demand for healthcare workers. The funding will be used to purchase equipment and supplies including laptops for students in the Nursing program. In other action, the board voted unanimously to approve a $340,050
ACC Receives TWC Grant
Alvin Community College received a check for a Texas Workforce Commission grant during a ceremony on June 11. The $349,980 grant was issued through the Jobs and Education for Texans program from the Commission. The grant will fund the purchase and installation of a Pignat OTP-DC Distillation Unit which is vital for student training. ACC Pays off 2005 Bond
Alvin Community College recently posted its final payment to pay off the 2005 bond. The $19.9 million bond was approved by voters in 2005 to construct the Science-Health Science Building on campus.
